Kani

A cherished art from Kashmir uses the unique "kani loom" to create intricate designs on fine pashmina shawls. It is named after the small wooden shuttle used in the weaving process called "kani". Skilled weavers wrap threads around wooden "kanis", insert them into warp threads to meticulously create the desired pattern. These shawls are woven with fine quality pashmina. The output fabric has a twill weave texture, other texture like herringbone or diamonds can also be made.
